About the role

In this role, you will assess life insurance claims across all products for Retail clients, managing key internal and external stakeholder relationships.

• Complex Technical Claims Assessment: Evaluate complex, high-value claims across the full life risk spectrum, including Life/Terminal Illness, Total and Permanent Disablement (TPD), Critical Illness/Trauma, and Income Protection (IP).
• Non-Disclosure & Litigated Matters: Manage contested claims involving pre-existing conditions, duty to take reasonable care misrepresentations, and Section 29 underwriting reconstructions alongside legal counsel and partners.
• Client Relationship & Advisory: Deliver technical advice and claims expertise to client insurers, driving high performance against Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and running collaborative portfolio reviews.
• Market Proposition & Capability Building: Support the Claims Manager in building and refining market-leading claims propositions, client workshops, and internal underwriting/claims synergies.
• Continuous Professional Development: Keep abreast of industry codes (Life Insurance Code of Practice), APRA regulations, and dispute trends to maintain elite technical standards.

Demonstrated skills

• 3+ years of end to end claims management experience working within a Life Insurer.
• Demonstrated experience handling complex claims across Life cover, TPD, Critical Illness, and Income Protection.
• Proven experience managing non-disclosure cases and dealing with legally represented claims.
• Strong working knowledge of Australian Life & Disability Insurance regulations and industry claims practices.
